On March 5, Batumi City Council adopted a resolution on the prohibition of electric vehicles in the territory of Batumi Boulevard.

The rule of movement of electric vehicles in the boulevard, park and square on the territory of the Batumi municipality was adopted on March 5, 2019 by majority of votes of City Council members and will be launched from May 1.

Batumi Boulevard has started working on a new regulation with the support of the Government of Adjara, based on frequent appeal of citizens and public demand.

According to Irakli Jincharadze, the director of Batumi Boulevard, Boulevard should return the status of the most safe recreational zone for visitors, according to him such regulations are crucial.

The region's largest and most attractive recreational zone has become a danger area for walkers in the tourist season. Due to the abundance of electric vehicles and rapid movement, a special problem was faced for children, the facts of injuries and collisions with electric vehicles have increased. In addition, the created picture has threatened the image of the boulevard as a cultural heritage monument and an attractive tourist spot for visitors.

It should be noted that the inflow of electric vehicles from uncontrolled territories and private leaseholders has increased from year to year. In order to stop the process and return the status of real recreational zone to the boulevard, Batumi Boulevard has developed a rule of prohibition according to the experience of international countries.

The resolution adopted by the Batumi City Council does not apply to movable means used by the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Security Police, Rescue Service, Batumi Boulevard Administration and other authorized bodies defined by the Georgian legislation.

The new regulation of the Batumi Boulevard on the prohibition of electric vehicles will facilitate the development of the boulevard recreational zone on the one hand and on the other hand a safe environment for the visitors.
